Under general supervision, performs a wide range of complex and difficult quality control inspections of structural, mechanical and electrical systems of new or modernization construction production work on ships. Interfaces with customers, vendors and various company departments to resolve difficult aspects of quality problems and provides information and ongoing reports to Program Manager. Evaluates and analyzes the progress and completion of construction efforts by organizing, documenting, and interpreting inspection support documents and records. Will be part of a team of technicians at Norfolk Regional Maintenance Center that will assist submarines in troubleshooting and repairing hull, mechanical, and electrical (HM&E) systems. May also install or assist in the installation of alterations and improvements. Duties Develops, evaluates, revises, and applies technical quality assurance protocols/methods to inspect and test in-process raw materials, production equipment, and finished products. Reviews drawings and specifications to determine repair criteria and assists in development of quality assurance plans for projects. Performs ship checks for work packages to ensure changes are incorporated and work is completed according to plan. Provides technical and shipboard support to Program Management for hull/steel, damage control, piping, HVAC and electrical system labeling and design requirements. Performs audits and assessments to ensure that equipment is properly installed and operating, that configuration is in accordance with requirements, that documentation is current, and label plates and other posted information is accurate. Validates shipboard implementation of alterations and modifications on board submarines. Develops ship check summaries and technical assistance visit reports. Provides guidance to less experienced Inspectors. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Education and Experience Associates degree plus 9 to 12 years in ship repair to include inspection. Must have experience inspecting structural, mechanical and electrical aspects of ships. Associates degree is not required for personnel with 14 or more years of documented experience. Must have six years of experience with operating, maintaining, installation, test, and/or repair of submarine HM&E systems. Must have eight years of non-concurrent general technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of HM&E systems (not necessarily submarines). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with various levels of ship repair and naval personnel. Knowledge of basic ship design criteria, standard ship repair practices, and change documentation. Understanding of ship?s drawings and specification documentation. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets for tracking engineering projects.
